Here are some of the policies of our UK Fairtrade designer:- Inspecting factories throughout the year to ensure safe and humane working conditions and making improvements where necessary; Prepaying suppliers to prevent them going into debt and to guarantee that workers are paid on time; Checking wages are at or above the national average for the job and making sure that men and women are paid equally for the same job; Refusal of any factory employing children under 16 years of age; Encouraging traditional techniques in garment making to keep these ancient crafts alive (ie.tie dye; block printing; aree embroiders); Buying from suppliers who use either AZO free or natural dyes as well as recycling waste fabric into bags, rugs and other clothing. This reduces the impact clothing manufacturing has on the local environment.
